Founded in 1973, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe is a legendary nonprofit arts venue rooted in the Puerto Rican and Afro-Caribbean cultural tradition of the Lower East Side. It hosts poetry slams, open mics, theater, and visual art, centering the voices of people of color and the working class. Currently undergoing building renovation.
