To provide free, high-quality legal representation to low-income New Yorkers who cannot afford an attorney.

The Legal Aid Society is the oldest and largest provider of free legal services in the United States. Its criminal defense, civil, and juvenile rights attorneys serve low-income New Yorkers across all five boroughs, with civil attorneys based in lower Manhattan handling housing, benefits, and immigration cases.
